Some 51 female artists show works in various genres in Varna
9 September, 2017
The sixth regional group exhibition Lyrical Messages was opened on 5 September at the Graffit Art Gallery in Varna. Of the 96 works initially submitted, a jury composed of Prof. Stoimen Stoilov, Zhivko Donchev and Veselin Markov, a representative of the Graffit Art Gallery, selected pieces by 51 artists working in genres such as painting, sculpture, print, new media and photography.
The exhibition showcases female artists with visible and multi-faceted presence on Varna’s art scene. This is the first of its kind presentation of the female artists’ work, a testament to their equal place on the contemporary art landscape.
The show also allows the cultural community to recognise the authors’ contributions. The event is entitled Lyrical Messages, both as a nod to the all-female cast of artists and as a reflection of their sources of inspiration.
The theme is a starting point for powerful and striking explorations and decisions. It is an intriguing amalgam of different artistic approaches. Various visual art forms meet and play off each other on this exhibition’s stage. The show is also an attempt at a dialogue between generations. Abstract and figurative, expressive and rational coexist in harmony in its framework. In this context, the theme provides a space in which the authors position their thoughts, emotions, experiences, fantasies and dreams, but also leave enough room for viewers and their own wants and wishes. The organisers, the Graffit Art Gallery and its partner the Association of Artists – Varna, hope to expand this space even further and inspire people to look differently at the work of Varna’s female artists.
The exhibition will remain open until 27 September.
