Qatar is interested in recruiting Bulgarian construction experts for the realisation of infrastructure projects. The news came from a meeting between Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov and Qatar’s Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohammed Al-Rumaihi, held following the unveiling of the Hamad Port.
Qatar has also stated its interest in importing Bulgarian farm products. The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works will organise a visit of Bulgarian mayors to Qatar with the aim of exchanging experience and establishing contacts for the realisation of joint projects, was revealed during the meeting.
The new port, which is among the biggest infrastructure projects in Qatar, is set to rank among the major ports in the Middle East. Covering an area of 28.5 sq km, its planned annual capacity is projected at 7.5m containers, 1.7m tonnes of goods and silo capacity of 1m tonnes. The port has storage facilities big enough to accommodate 500,000 vehicles and is equipped with a livestock base and infrastructure that meets the world’s highest standards, including a 110m control tower.
