Two mysteries share one stage
Divine voices from Bulgaria and Australia conquer Sofia and Plovdiv
19 May, 2017
Following its successful US tour, Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares (the Mystery of Bulgarian Voices) choir is about to make their domestic fans happy with a new repertoire. There are two scheduled concerts – for 6 June at Hall Bulgaria in Sofia and 8 June at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv. The concerts will also feature the exceptional Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance. Born in Melbourne, Australia to a family of Irish emigrants, she embarked on her music career in 1981 and rose to worldwide prominence as part of the band Dead Can Dance with music partner Brendan Perry. In 2000, she won a Golden Globe Award for the music score to the film Gladiator, on which she collaborated with Hans Zimmer.
During recording sessions at a Bulgarian studio, Lisa shared that this is a dream come true for her. She heard Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares in London years ago and after the concert thought to herself that they were the epitome of vocal skill.
During the two concerts the Bulgarian audience will hear pieces by Lisa Gerrard and composers Petar Dundakov (Bulgaria) and Jules Maxwell (Ireland). The programme also features popular tunes from the repertoire of Lisa Gerrard and Dead Can Dance, including The Host of Seraphim (Dead Can Dance), Now We Are Free (Gladiator), etc.
Besides Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares and Lisa Gerrard, German percussionists David Kuckhermann and Sebastian Fleig, Petar Milanov (guitar), Hristina Beleva (gadulka, traditional string instrument), Dimitar Karamfilov (contrabass), beatboxer SkilleR and artists from the Sofia Philharmonic will also take the stage on 6 and 8 June.
